Begun in late 1996 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Sheltered Reality (SR) has dedicated itself to being a youth-oriented project, where youth members in SR use music and education as a way to reach out to audiences, motivating them to advocate for those in need, especially children and families.

The educational message presented focuses on facts, statistics, and real-life stories, and culminates with character education and ideas for action. Topics include personal empowerment, success at living out life dreams, as well as anti-bullying, alcohol and drug prevention, suicide prevention, and other negatives that impact the lives of today’s youth. SR's unique percussive approach to performing music challenges audience members to take what you love to do and share it with another person, impacting them in a positive way.

Mission Statement
Sheltered Reality (SR) employs the power of music to engage and motivate audiences to make positive changes both in themselves and the world in which they live. Through stories of hardship and triumph, and a sequence of Steps of Success, SR teaches personal empowerment and character building, and then encourages the application of these abilities to its primary focus of advocacy for youth in crisis.
